Spectrum TG46SE 3-in-1 Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower

If you’re maintaining a mid-sized garden – between 1500 and 1800m² – with slopes and rough-grass areas to manage, the 46cm, self-propelled Spectrum TG46SE Petrol Lawnmower comes highly recommended!

As the mowing season progresses through spring, summer and autumn, the condition of your lawn will inevitably change. To help you deal with this, Spectrum has equipped the adaptable TG46SE with three cutting options – collection, side-eject and mulching. Switching between modes is quick and simple.

Now upgraded with a powerful 173cc four-stroke overhead-valve engine, the Spectrum TG46SE delivers the extra capacity and performance needed to tackle demanding mowing conditions. With plenty of torque on hand, it makes light work of thick, overgrown grass and is well suited to rougher areas and challenging terrain.

A robust steel mower deck provides excellent impact resistance and durability, while single-point cutting-height adjustment makes it quick and easy to select the required blade position. The cutting height can be adjusted from 25 to 75mm.

The class-leading features continue with extra-large 250mm drive wheels, ball-bearing mounted for smoothness and durability. They provide excellent traction without unnecessarily scuffing delicate lawns, while also improving manoeuvrability through longer grass. An impressively spacious 60-litre grassbag keeps those tiresome, time-consuming trips to the compost heap to a minimum.

The ergonomic, soft-grip handlebar on the Spectrum TG46SE is foldable for compact storage and adjustable for operator comfort.

The Spectrum TG46SE also boasts a lithium-battery-based key ignition system, making starting the engine virtually effortless.

The starter battery and charger are included. The battery features LED charge-level indicators, while the charger incorporates a red ‘Charging’ light to confirm the battery is correctly positioned and charging.

The front of the machine was further strengthened with a substantial metal bumper bar, helping to protect the chassis against accidental knocks and collisions.

When you see a new Petrol mower advertised without a review you sometimes wonder. This machine had all the bells and whistles and was very well priced plus the weight and cut size suited me very well.
There are a few niggles, and one big moan. I will leave the good stuff until last.
The mower arrived in double quick time and was left where I asked it to be but no email or text to say it has been delivered. This should be done ..the niggle no one. The deck wash has the usual plastic port that you plug your hose into. All others I have used use a std ‘Hozelock’ nozzle. .Not this one and as luck would have it I had a box full of various nozzles but have no idea where they came from and there is no mention of the wash deck in the instructions. This needs to be fixed. That was niggle no two.
The big moan is the instructions are printed on a few white pages with black lettering and are APPALLING! There are a few diagrams in black and white that you cannot read and the whole booklet is an almost patronising effort that assumes all are lawn mower mechanics. This alone will cost the brand sales. I had to get a lawn mower mechanic in and he said that the construction was, at least ‘challenging’ The plastic cup holder and fitting is difficult, look cheap and are more than difficult to fit without proper instructions.
The good stuff. The mower started the first time, cuts like a dream and has excellent pick up into the box The detachable battery charger is also excellent and means you do not have to be next to a power point to charge up the machine (only need to do it rarely) The speed (it is self-propelled) is just about correct and on a flat surface you can dispense with this and simply push it along but you will need the power on slopes as the machine, although not that heavy, will be harder to push. I found the mower very frugal on fuel. An excellent point. The deck wash works well when you can get the hose attached.
So, am I pleased? Overall yes, as the mower cuts and collects very well which is the purpose of the purchase but disappointed that the instructions are so poor so (Manufacturer) take note and either fix this or get a video online showing how to assemble the machine.

    Cracking bit of kit !👍

The user hand book needs updating, the pictures are to small and dark to read. there was no instruction to remove the plate by the rear collection box and the electric start panel was difficult to fit. Overall the mower cuts well and is easy to handle.

Excellent value , super easy ( Minor ) assembly .
    100 % Recommended .

Good price for electric start mower attracted me to this model.
A bit slow on delivery took 7 days.
Agree with previous comments that it needs to tell you there is a plastic plate to be removed for collection box to work. It comes fitted with the plate for mulching but not fitted with the side shute so didn’t realise it needed removing.
Only used a couple of times but very pleased with it. Excellent electric start .
Time will tell how long it lasts 🤞

My ex-demo model came perfectly packaged and as new but no mention of whether it carried the full guarantee. As others have mentioned, the assembly instructions are virtually useless. The photos are small, grainy and dark….no help whatsoever! However anyone with an ounce of practicality, will soon sort it out. I must admit it took me a while to realise you had to remove the battery to charge it up as I spent a good few minutes looking for the hole in the casing in which to plug the charger!
That said, once the battery was charged, the oil installed (who stocks 10W30 locally these days) and petrol poured in, the lawnmower fired up beautifully. The electric start is a godsend. I couldn’t understand why the basket wasn’t filling with grass until I realised I hadn’t removed the mulching plate – why fit it, just include it in the box. The cut was good, the mower was very manoeuvrable and it performed well, if just a bit slow (self-propelled). For value for money I have to give the mower 5 stars, but I’d give 0 stars for the instructions.

I just got my Spectrum TG46SE 3-in-1 Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower
Great mower very easy to put together
    Starts Great
Only little criticism I would have is the Delivery is a bit slow
But I would highly recommend the lawnmower

  10. Brian rose (verified owner) –

Nice lawnmower,, but the battery needs charging too often ,, It needs a charging system on the machine and a master switch to isolate any drain from the battery,,
Not a bad machine,, But I’ve only just used it twice as yet ,,,

I bought the Spectrum TG46SE 3-in-1 Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmow with Electric Start about 3 weeks ago and I can honestly say deliver was quick but it was by luck as I was just going out when they delivered this, I thought I would be informed beforehand. On the build of it as others have said the instruction are not clear, dark images and faded instructions.
I found the cup holder hard to fix due to the holes not lining up so unable to put all the screws in. Now the mower is easy to use and I have never used a petrol mower before but this was easy. Electric start, brilliant and going around my large garden which with the electric mower took over 2hrs to complete this is now down to just under 40 mins. Great product, easy to clean. I would recommend this mower and hopefully they take on board what others have said about the instructions and improve them. Bonus point: Extended five-year manufacturer’s warranty
Delivery 4, Instructions 2, and usage of the 5.

  12. Jim Butler (verified owner) –

Arrived well packed. The user manual was very poor, very small and dark pictures that were little help in assembling, needs a major review and reprint A4 size at least. The electric start panel was very difficult to fit, took over an hour with a fair bit of guesswork. There were no instructions to remove the plate by the rear collection box so grass box didn’t fill when first used. All that aside it worked very well, easy to use so very happy with the product. Do sort out that use manual and it would get 5 stars!

great as described great electric start cuts really well powerful self drive

  14. Philip Cocking (verified owner) –

Fairly new to me & used only once but great so far. Electric start a dream as is the power drive.
Would have been good to have tracking or better view of where/when it was being delivered but the mower itself is 100%

  15. Terry (verified owner) –

Best mower I have ever had, can’t believe how easy it is to start. It cuts long, short, dry or wet with no problems attall. The staff are very friendly and helpful and they keep you updated all the time and you get a phone call from the driver on the day of delivery to let you know approximately what time he will arrive. I would recommend having it ready built as it looks a bit complicated to build yourself. I would definitely recommend to all my friends and family. Keep up the great work.
